John Lloyd Young’s Life After Being One of the ‘Boys’

January 24th, 2008

The Jersey Journal Arts Editor Jeff Theodore has a candid interview with John Lloyd Young, who talks to the editor about his post-Jersey Boys life and his thoughts on what his future may hold.

When asked if he felt being a Tony winner would help advance his career, Young says only time will tell.

“What the Tony is evidence of is that I could do a job really well,” he says. “It’s an indication that I might succeed again, but not a guarantee.”

Young compared it to being a fresh new college grad.

“I felt like I knew less than when I got there,” he says. “I’m not insecure, but aware of my lack of experience. I’ve always been very confident but that doesn’t mean I haven’t had uncertainty. Uncertainty allows you to see what things are and learn from there. Right now, I’m searching and vulnerable, but I think that’s a great place to try to be creative from.”

  3. JLY, you provide us with new insightful information with each interview you give, and this was no exception.

You comment, “I’m working on throwing caution to the wind and being willing to completely stink.” We’re dealing with an oxymoron here, John; it’s not possible. Maybe you’re “willing”, but knowing you, seeing you on stage so many times, and hearing about your remarkable performance in “The Chosen”, it just ain’t gonna happen. Irene will show us a way to divide by zero before it occurs!!

We’re all looking forward to seeing you on Feb. 23rd at the Lincoln Center venue, and I hear from my friend Gary that there will be quite a few fans meeting between shows and after your final show. As you say in your JB Podcast interview, so many of us have formed real friendships thanks to you, the Blog, and the show. And as Jody just posted on the Bulletin Board today, please consider giving us “What a Wonderful World” live!! See you soon.
