Wow! Finally, Frankie Valli is talking about the JERSEY BOYS movie! In an exclusive interview on K-EARTH 101, he said, “I haven’t seen the movie yet, I haven’t had a moment. I just felt a little strange walking into a theater, so I missed the previews.”

Irritated by this interview. What fans did they talk to that were disappointed? Because the 3000 fans on JLYs FB page can’t get enough! Same for Erich, Michael, Vince, Joey, and the girls. They all did an amazing job! And their performances and the story they portrayed have changed many lives! If Frankie hasn’t seen it, he shouldn’t have any negative comments about it. JLY wasn’t given a year to hang out with Frankie. The film was shot in under 40 days! And Frankie was on the set. So why didn’t he give more input if he felt they needed it? I bet it would have been welcome.
Sorry but I have to respectfully disagree that this movie was a flop, or that any of the actors gave less than 100%. It was amazing! The only reason it didn’t do better in my opinion was the timing of the release (summer), and the stigma of making a Broadway play into a movie.

I loved the Jersey Boys movie! I saw it five times! Cannot get enough of John Lloyd Young. He is an excellent singer and actor. The movie was not a disappointment to anyone. The reviews have not been good, but honestly, they have it all wrong. I can hardly wait for the DVD!

Sorry to say but the movie just didn’t work.
It’s no wonder that Frankie is distancing himself from it.
Less that $50 Mil for a major release isn’t good.
Sure, some loyalists liked it but in general no one else did.
The decision to do the movie like the play with the cast members was obviously the wrong way to go. But who’s to say that any other method of doing would have worked.

I think that demographics are the biggest reason that the box office hasn’t done as well. Frankly, most people over 50 rarely go into a movie theater. When I saw the movie, the theater was 3/4 full, but almost all were over 50. But even younger people are opting to wait for the DVD or Cable TV or Netflix run to see a new movie. I think when all the revenue from DVDs and downloads comes in, there will be a respectable profit.
I also thought it was very good, and it explained a lot of the dark side better than the play. I would have like to have had a lot more music in the movie, and I do wish that they had credited the DJ in the booth as Joey Reynolds. But we have to remember that this was Clint Eastwood’s decision. I thought Christopher Walken did a great job also. But fans, including myself, would have liked it to be more like the musical group, and less like “The Sopranos”.
And frankly, a lot of musical groups from the 1960s and all eras have a dark side much worse than The Four Seasons. It’s even hard now to listen to “The Rain, The Park, and Other Things” by The Cowsills, for instance, and not think about the recent darker revelations about that group. And don’t even get me started on all the “counterculture” groups from that era.

Filmed in less than 40 days ?? That seems a little rushed. I saw Frankie in concert in Nashville less then 5 days from the movies release and he never mentioned it during the show. He praised the Broadway play, but not one word about the upcoming movie. I believe he had previewed the film and did not like it. Also, doing 6 to 8 shows a month, I think I would find the time to see it. What was the budget on the film? It was advertised alot on TV. %50 Million could still turn a profit. I liked the movie, but could have been better. Too many flaws for the true fans.

The movie was fantástic and the actors were great singers. John Lloyd Young is the best person to portray Frankie Valli. He sings BETTER than the real Frankie! I saw the movie several times and bought both CDs and have not stopped listening day and night. The songs bring back great memories and I have fallen in love with John Lloyd because he has a great voice and is totally gorgeous to look at. I hope he becomes “better than Sinatra” as he said in the movie. He deserves it.

I looked it up. Budget was $40 million. So maybe broke even. And If I were an “executive producer”, I would have some imput

Look. The movie in places almost follows the Broadway play verbatim. I thought it was brilliant the way Clint Eastwood let the scenes play out on screen. It was a little cheesy in places, but so was the play. That is what is endearing about it. I watched it 21 times. It was the best movie ever.
