After four and a half years with the show, New Jersey native Dominic Scaglione, Jr. is understandably thrilled to be starring as “Frankie Valli” the Broadway production of JERSEY BOYS! Broadway.com’s Ryan Gilbert has a fabulous interview with Dominic, who talks about his first time stepping onto the stage playing the role of Frankie Valli, the advice Valli has given him, his close-knit family, and a shout-out to Jersey Boys Blog ;-) ! Below is a sneak peek!

How does it feel to have the part of Frankie Valli on Broadway as your own? Are you relieved?
It’s pretty unbelievable! It was always a dream to get here, so it’s surreal. I got really proud once it all sunk in.

Would you say you come from a protective Italian-American family, like Frankie?
Absolutely! My father was a cop and an FBI agent, so you don’t get much more protective than that. I’m a grown man and I still have to call my mother every day or I get a phone call saying, “Hey Dom! Call your mother! We’re worried about you!” I taught them all how to text because sometimes I have to rest the voice, but they’re definitely overprotective in a good way. A lot of my actor friends are like, “Your parents have seen the show like 50 times! I don’t get it.” You hear stories about parents telling their kids not to get into the business, but my parents saw me in my first play and said, “This is what you have to do.”

Finally, what’s it like to interact with Jersey Boys fans?
Oh man, they are extremely passionate [laughs]. They have their favorites, but they’ve definitely taken to me. There’s this Jersey Boys blog, and they have this crew of people who have seen the show like a hundred times, and they welcomed me with open arms…

Thanks for the shout-out, Dom!

  1. Well, I’m not one of those who have seen the show 100 times – yet – but it’s easy to welcome Dominic with open arms! Although ‘welcome’ doesn’t feel like the right word since he’s been in the JB family for so long. Good things come to those who wait and we’ve been waiting and now you’re here…6 times a week!

And that shout-out? Well deserved, Jersey Boys Blog! You were here for us fans (and cast) before tweeting and pinteresting was even a blip in the cyberspace consciousness.

  2. “I would get all these Facebook friend requests (from JB fans), and they would meet me at the stage door upset that I hadn’t accepted. So I made sure I accepted everyone that I possibly could!”

Lol – take my advice and do what I do then – ya gotta have two facebook ID’s; one for your JB “family” and one for the rest of the real world. My non-JB friends would think I’m nuts if they read all the JB and music-related stuff I post!

    Very nice interview. ;-)
