Newsflash! Farm Girl in New York to Premiere at Big Apple Film Festival in November!

October 20th, 2007

Along with nearly every other die-hard Jersey Boys fan, we’re in New York this weekend for tomorrow night’s Jersey Boys Fans Unite to Support BC/EFA event! Thanks to good timing today on 52nd Street, we ran into Bobby Spencer, who shared some exciting news with us!

“Farm Girl in New York,” a new film by J. Robert Spencer has been selected to premiere at the Big Apple Film Festival in November.

The fourth annual event will take place at New York City’s Tribeca Cinemas, Nov. 14-17. Spencer penned the independent feature with fellow Broadway star, Jeffrey Howard Schecter (A Chorus Line).

Here are more details from Playbill.com!

“Sam and Matt flee their small mid-western town of ‘Shickville,’ for New York City, where hot girls roam the streets!,” reads a show synopsis. “After months of failure they come up with the idea to hold a fake audition to meet women. Hilarity ensues when dozens of hot, talentless, babes show up competing for a job that doesn’t exist.”

The comedy soon puts the unlikely heroes in the midst of writing and rehearsing a show — simply to win the heart of one of the actresses. Set in and around the Broadway community, the film was shot in New York City.

“My friend Jeff Schecter, he and I — and another guy named Josh Wade — we wrote this together,” Spencer previously told Playbill.com. “I’m producing it and directing it and they’re starring in it. We’ve been shooting in the day and then doing our Broadway shows at night.”

  3. Bobby what great news! I have been waiting to see when your movie would be presented. What an awesome feat, you make a movie besides being a great Nick Massi in Jersey Boys. I bet you family is so proud of you as they should be. I can’t be in New York tomorrow for the Jersey Boys event at the Marriott Marquis cause I’m in California, but I will be there in spirit. You guys deserve all the success you have, you have all worked so hard and I wish you all the best on the premeire of your movie.

  5. Bobby, I know you put in 18 hour days on this, and we’re all so proud of you. I’ve spoken to you many times now, and you’re way too modest. Should I make my Oscar reservations for next year?

Maybe you and I can fly out together for the Oscars so we can watch Bobby accept his award. iE
