Nick Cosgrove during his JBB Exclusive Interview in July, 2012
The JERSEY BOYS first national tour is playing the Aronoff Center in Cincinnati from November 28 – December 9, 2012. Nick Cosgrove, who plays Frankie Valli, tells reporter Jackie Demaline that the role is a good fit for him. Here’s a sneak peek of the interview:
How he got the job involved a lot of auditioning, including “‘Frankie Camp.â€Cosgrove saw “Jersey Boys†when he was a high school kid in Chicago six years ago. “I already knew I wanted to go into theater. When I saw the role, I said to myself, ‘I want to go to school to train to do that.’â€
Cosgrove fit the physical description – under 5’10â€, Mediterranean features and complexion. So far, so good. He began the road to “Jersey Boys†in February 2011. “They weren’t casting. Sometimes they hold camps just to have people on their radar.â€
But first Cosgrove had to audition for the camp. If you’ve ever watched Hollywood week on “American Idol,†you know the drill. Twenty guys walk into the rehearsal room, they’re taught two dance numbers. Half are dismissed and then there are 10.
The three-day camp starts with one-on-one sessions with the show’s vocal coach Katie Agresta to learn songs including “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You†and “Walk Like a Man.â€
