Oscar Winner Martin Scorsese Sees Jersey Boys!

March 21st, 2007

On John Lloyd Young’s blog, he notes that this past Sunday, Jersey Boys had some major 2007 award winners in the audience: 2007 Academy Award-winning director, Martin Scorsese, and Jersey Boys very own 2007 Grammy Award winner, Bob Gaudio.

Wonder if Martin Scorsese is considering directing the film version of JB?

  1. Man oh man – would that be a great combination! I don’t know how Martin Scorcese would be at directing a musical, but he is a brilliant director. He certainly would bring credibility and edge to the “wiseguys” in the JB film. Lots of experience with that subject matter. But if they could nail down Scorcese and at least the principal characters with the original cast, this would be a major blockbuster.

  2. Scorese was supposed to direct the Little Shop of Horrors movie according to David Geffen.

I think I would prefer Scorese to Spielberg as a possible director for Jersey Boys the movie. He would just need to cast JLY, Daniel, Christian, Bobby, and Michael and then in the other parts some of the members of the show along with some more well known names and cameos from the surviving Seasons, Pesci, and Bob Crewe.

In this blog entry in the first sentence, me, my sister, and my mom are mentioned.

  3. I agree with you Josh, as much as I admire Spielberg’s work, I think that Scorcese would be better suited to this material. As for the cast, I just hope that they don’t put major “movie stars” in the roles. I’d much prefer to see unknowns, original cast members, or national tour cast members.

  4. And I agree with you Hilary. One just needs to look at Hollywood’s replacing Julie Andrews (then not well known) with Audrey Hepburn in “My Fair Lady”, replacing Carol Channing with Barbra Streisand in “Hello Dolly”, replacing Ethel Merman with Roz Russell in “Gypsy” and Tyne Daly with Bette Midler in the TV version of “Gypsy”–and maybe the biggest miscast of all….replacing Angela Lansbury with Lucille Ball in “Mame”.
