Arnold Wayne Jones of DallasVoice.com has a terrific interview with Barry Anderson, who portrays Bob Crewe in the JERSEY BOYS second national tour. Check out a sneak peek below:

Q: In the play, they call him “flamboyant” which we all know is code for gay.

A: Ha! Yes. In the show, Bob Gaudio’s character addresses the audience and says, “This is the ’60s — people just thought Liberace was theatrical.” Back then, people knew but didn’t talk about it. I think that’s another thing people don’t think about [the Four Seasons}: This flamboyant gay man was creating all of the songs that working class straight guys were playing on the radio all that time. It’s another interesting factoid. Everyone that kind of knew him said he had no apologies about his sexuality. He has to this day been very vocal in support of the gay community. I like to give that to the audience. But at the same time, I think by the end of the play it’s not even an issue.
