The Date: Sunday, March 21, 2010–The Place: South Point Casino–The Show: “Songs My Idols Sang (and Danced)” The Star: Rick Faugno

We didn’t think it was possible to enjoy Rick Faugno’s sensational one-man show, “Songs My Idols Sang (And Danced)” at South Point Casino Showroom even more than we did back in January–but it could happen and it did happen!

On Sunday, the triple-threat Rick Faugno and his seven-piece swingin’ sensational band gave the sold-out audience an entertainment experience of vocals, dance, and stories that transported us back to a magical era! Although he was singing the greatest hits of the American songbook of legends including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Sammy Davis, Jr., Rick’s fresh interpretations of these standards absolutely WOW’ed! the crowd! His dancing? As he breezed across the stage–from the smooth and sophisticated steps–to the turning, leaping, and spectacular tap dancing–he made it all seem effortless!

Forget what I said earlier about Rick being a triple-threat performer! Make that a quadruple-threat! In addition to his singing, dancing, and acting–let’s add Rick’s talent as a storyteller! The audience immediately connected to Rick’s stories–from his early days of learning dance steps from his dad, the special bond he developed with his mom as she drove him back and forth from Jersey to Broadway, and learning from the many stage, music, and dance legends that he has admired throughout his life! And, let’s not forget Rick’s hilarious impression of Carol Channing’s “Hello Dolly” and belting out Ethel Merman’s “Everything’s Coming Up Roses”–the song he sang for his Broadway audition at the age of twelve, noting that it’s a song usually sung by a middle-aged woman (BTW, he got the job!)! Adding to the fun was Rick’s musical director, Keith Thompson, who amusingly tried to get Rick to stop these impersonations and return to the show’s format!

At the show’s finale, he room was filled with thunderous applause, and not one, but two standing ovations for Rick and his magnificent band, which brought the crowd a spectacular afternoon of entertainment!

Rick’s next edition of “Songs My Idols Sang (And Danced) is on April 25th at 3PM at the South Point Showroom!

  1. You’re not exaggerating with that headline: Rick Faugno is definitely a shining star, both in Jersey Boys and his one-man show. He was fantastic last Sunday.
