Scoop from Deadline.com: Clint Eastwood Looking at Stage Talent to Star in JERSEY BOYS Film!
June 10th, 2013
Clint Eastwood
How about this scoop from Deadline.com?!
EXCLUSIVE: Don’t be surprised if Clint Eastwood is asked to host next year’s Tony Awards; he’s positioning himself to be that popular with the legit crowd. Eastwood is prepping to direct the movie version of Jersey Boys for Warner Bros. Instead of the Hollywood tradition of chasing screen stars, I’m told Eastwood is looking to cast the main role in the movie with the actors who are onstage every night in the various Jersey Boys stage shows all around the world.
It might give Sue Kroll a marketing challenge, but if he goes through with it, Eastwood certainly will deliver to Warner Bros a reasonably priced movie. Production on the film will start at the end of August on the Warner Bros lot. It is produced by Graham King and Rob Lorenz, with Valli and Bob Gaudio serving as executive producers. The stage show is certainly a brand: It has generated more than $1 billion in sales for all its companies.
Well, what do you guys think of the latest JERSEY BOYS movie scoop?! JB cast members who perform the role every night all over the globe on the BIG SCREEN?!!
8 perfect words
Travis Cloer
Deven May
Jeff Leibow
Peter Saide
It just makes sense !

Last year there was a vote on this board for who would be the favorite to play Frankie in the movie. If memory serves me right, Jarrod won overwhelmingly. Maybe someone can repost? He is absolutely the most logical and most suitable. No one can light up the screen like Jarrod!

John Lloyd Young has the voice and acting down to perfection.
Comment by Nancy — June 11, 2013 @ 2:54 pm
Was hoping this would be the route the movie would take. Makes the most sense. To have so much talent already playing these parts why look elsewhere.
Going to be a really hard job picking which Jersey Boy should star in the movie.
Comment by Fran — June 11, 2013 @ 6:34 pm
JOHN LLOYD YOUNG is the only choice to play FRANKIE VALLI in the movie.

We’ve seen so many really great cast members over the last 7 years, but Dominic Scaglione, Jr. would be my dream choice for the Frankie Valli film role. He is the real deal!
Comment by Kate — June 12, 2013 @ 11:20 am
I’ve also seen quite a few actors do awesome jobs playing the Four Seasons both on Broadway and on tour in Jersey Boys; however, I agree with Kate about Dominic Scaglione, Jr.’s performance. His Frankie is so top notch, not just with the singing, but with the emotional roller coaster of Frankie’s life. Seeing him in the film version would be my choice, Mr. Eastwood!

JLY or Jarrod would MAKE MY DAY!!

JOHN LLOYD YOUNG, his voice and acting wins hands down.
Comment by Nancy — June 12, 2013 @ 3:07 pm
After seeing more than 15 performances over a five year period – from Broadway to Chicago, Vegas and numerous National Tour venues – these are my favorites to play their parts in the movie, Jersey Boys…
Joseph Leo Bwarie – Frankie
Deven May – Tommy
Andrew Rannells – Bob
Steve Gouveia – Nick

Dominic Scaglione is the most like the real Frankie! Please consider him!

Excited to read that Clint Eastwood is considering the stage actors.
We all have our favorites. Here’s mine:
Valli: Dominic Scaglione
DeVito: Michael Cunio
Gaudio: Quinn VanAntwerp
Massi: Brandon Andrus
Comment by Ray K — June 12, 2013 @ 11:16 pm
Hope Eastwood’s idea works…Not sure if the general audience (who’s not into theater the way many of us are) will connect with relatively unknown actors rather than well-known actors (such as Bradley Cooper or Channing Tatum, or whoever is big right now.)
But I’d say Scaglione would be the best Frankie Valli choice from JB. Probably leaning toward Andrew Rannells for Gaudio. Still thinking who would be best for Massi & DeVito.

I have only 3 words; John Lloyd Young
Comment by Damaris Dugan — June 13, 2013 @ 1:51 pm
While I admire Eastwood’s decision and respect the great work of all the stage actors…I think that getting people to see a film and have it be reasonably successful, requires at least one or two known actors.
Hope I’m wrong.

Ryan molloy in the london cast for six years would be great.
Comment by Dazza — June 15, 2013 @ 9:46 am
I’ve seen most of the actors who have played Frankie Valli. In my opinion, Mr. Scaglione would be a natural for the movie version. Mr. Lotito and Ms. Schmidt would also be fabulous in the movie. Can’t wait to see it!
Comment by Chris — June 15, 2013 @ 5:29 pm
Thers is only one person. He was the first one to play the role, he won a Tony for the role & all others who followed were compared to him. It has to be John Lloyd Young.
Comment by patti — June 15, 2013 @ 6:23 pm
@Ray: I agree with you. While I appreciate the great work that the stage actors around the world have done in Jersey Boys, I think Mr. Eastwood needs at least a few well-known actors for some of the Four Seasons roles to make this film a big hit.
Here’s my idea: Definitely Dominic Scaglione as Frankie & maybe Justin Timberlake as Tommy, Bradley Cooper as Bob Gaudio, and James Franco as Nick Massi.
Comment by LouAnn — June 15, 2013 @ 6:36 pm
My ideal Jersey Boys would be:
Frankie Valli: JOHN LLOYD YOUNG
Tommy DeVito: CHRISTIAN HOFF
Bob Gaudio: Daniel Reichard or Andrew Rannells
Nick Massi: BRANDON ANDRUS
If you want big names put them in other roles.
Comment by LEH — June 15, 2013 @ 11:23 pm
Definitely Dominic Scaglione ~ check out youtube video “Jersey Boys Broadway Big Three” ~ his vocals are perfection and the chemistry with the other boys (Andy Karl – Matt Bogart – Quinn VanAntwerp is so natural. Dominic’s on stage portrayal of Frankie Valli is so intense & genuine ~
Comment by Maureen — June 20, 2013 @ 10:04 pm
Have seen the show over 50 times and have seen 8 Frankie’s … Travis Cloer by far has the best voice and look. And it is amazing how he grows and ages as the show progresses! The whole Vegas cast is just the right blend. Heck, they are a family and family is everything!
Comment by Maryanne — June 21, 2013 @ 1:33 pm
Would love to see John Lloyd Young or Jarrod Spector. Both are incredible.
Comment by Rose — June 21, 2013 @ 4:14 pm

John Lloyd Young has the talent both for singing and Acting and he would be the only Frankie for the movie
Comment by Jovi PANLILIO — July 4, 2013 @ 3:49 pm
John Lloyd Young only choice for Frankie
Comment by Brenda Henning — July 7, 2013 @ 10:04 pm
Ryan Molloy surely can be the only choice to play Frankie Valli, has been playing the part in the West End from day one and for the past 5 years, he’s the only one good enough to do it and I’m sure Frankie would agree.
