On July 11, 2005, the various Broadway press websites posted the big news that Des McAnuff’s hit musical from La Jolla Playhouse, JERSEY BOYS, chronicling the rags to riches to rags story of blue collar boys-turned-pop sensations Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, announced the cast for the upcoming Broadway debut.

Who remembers this photo of the “Boys”–when it was all still ahead of us?! Enjoy the photo flashback of John Lloyd Young, who would be making his Broadway debut as Frankie Valli, along with La Jolla originators Christian Hoff (Tommy DeVito), Daniel Reichard (Bob Gaudio), and J. Robert Spencer (Nick Massi)!

  1. What a great photo. It is nice to see a picture of the original cast from 2005. I feel so lucky to have seen them in October, 2005 on Broadway during previews. I knew from way back then that ” Jersey Boys” was going to be a big hit on Broadway. John Lloyd Young was fantastic the first time I saw him and continues to be phenomenal.” Oh What a Night”.

  2. When I interviewed Chris Callis for the Jersey Boys Blog, I was so surprised to learn that Daniel, Christian and Bobby were meeting John for the first time that day, and that JLY had to use David Norona’s suit in the shoot since his show clothes weren’t made yet. This really was in the VERY early days!

  3. Gorgeous photo of the original and best….I’m from England and have seen the show 14 times (with above cast)Have also seen it with other cast in London and New York but it just doesn’t compare, not even close. I wish they would reunite….miss them especially Christian <3

  4. That picture never got much use. It’s a nice shot but the boys in their red jackets facing away from the crowd is the most recognizable . I also saw the show on Broadway the first Wednesday matinee , 3 rd row center .I have seen a lot of shows on Broadway , but not as good as Jersey Boys! John Lloyd Young is the only one to play Frankie Valli. Look what’s happened in 10 years ..a movie with John Lloyd Young . The guys the Best!!
