On September 15, 1962, the whole world exploded! Forty-six years ago today, “Sherry” by The Four Seasons hit Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Chart and remained in the top spot for five consecutive weeks! Written by Bob Gaudio, the song that started it all for The Four Seasons stayed on the chart for 14 weeks. 3. The first time I saw Frankie Valli and the Seasons live was in 1975 at Madison Square Garden, and as good as he and the group were back then, I still get a kick out of catching footage of them performing during their glory days in the 1960′s. This clip is simply superb! Thanks for the post and a happy 46th birthday to “Sherry” becoming the first of many #1 hits for Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.

  6. Unlike people who claimed to be at “Woodstock” and weren’t, I was actually at the filming of this clip/TV show back in the Fall of 67.

It was filmed at the Warwick Musical Theater in RI. They rehearsed over a period of three days along with
Smokey Robinson, Aretha, Buffalo Springfield, Neil Diamond and others.

What was fascinating about it was that we were able to hang out with them (public allowed, no security issues back then)

It was truly the “Summer Of Frankie”. Coming off “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”, “C’Mon Maryann”,
“I Make A Fool Of Myself” charted and “Watch The Flowers Grow” was in the wings.

I witnessed Frankie being introduced to Aretha Franklin from which they experimented with “That’s Life” and later would perform it on the Mike Douglas Show.

    What a time!

  7. There was also the Wonder Who cover of the 1920s Gene Austin/Nat Shilkret hit “Lonesome Road”. Frankie Valli beat Rowan and Martin, Goldie Hawn, Judy Carne, and even Richard Nixon to the punch with the line “Come on, come on, and Sock It To Me” in the summer of 1967.

  9. One of the 4 Seasons best concerts ever was at the Convention Center in Asbury Park in the summer of 1967 (the later part of August as I recall). The 4 Seasons, and Frankie Valli as a solo artist, were very hot at the time. The concert included not only recent chart hits “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and “C’mon Marianne” but also introduced were “I Make a Fool of Myself” and yes Ted even “Lonesome Road,” the later two never to be heard again (by me anyway) in concert. Frankie really hammed up the “Sock It To Me” part. The audience always got into the “Wonder Who” songs. “Don’t Think Twice” became the group’s audience participation song for many years -always a lot of audience hand-clapping and “Bruup Bruups” in the middle of the song as Joe Long would ask Frankie to sing it “Shirley” (as in Temple) and Frankie would urge the crowd to do the Rose Murphy “bruup bruups” along with him.
