Turning Out Stars via Frankie Camp!

June 22nd, 2011

Jersey Boys LogoBeacon Journal staff writer Kerry Clawson has a really interesting an informative interview with JERSEY BOYS production supervisor Richard Hester, who’s in charge of Frankie Camp and the development of Frankies around the world.

Currently, 21 Frankies either play or are poised to play the iconic role in five companies: Broadway, the U.S. tour, Las Vegas, London and
Sydney, Australia.

Frankies must look Mediterranean and be 5 feet, 9 inches, or shorter. They also must have an incredible falsetto, something some Frankies didn’t know they possessed until camp.

”It’s not about hitting the notes. It’s about hitting the notes and making them sound beautiful,” Hester said, comparing Valli’s falsetto quality to a nasal ”playground nhah nhah nhah.”

”If someone can’t do the voice, then it’s all over,” he said. ”And when it is beautiful, it’s breathtaking.”

  1. There’s a guy who works in the local Sears who has the size and looks to play Frankie, now the voice/acting could be quite another thing!!!
