Found this fabulous archive online! John Gilliland’s “The Pop Chronicles” traces the history of popular music from the 1950’s through the 1960’s. Mr. Gilliland wrote, narrated and produced these 55 hours of broadcasting first airing at KRLA in Pasadena in February 1969.

On Track 3, The Four Seasons (Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, Joe Long, and Frankie Valli) talked with the host about what makes their sound unique and the string of hits they had over the decade.

Considering today marks the 49th anniversary of “Sherry” topping the charts, it was fascinating to listen to what influenced Bob Gaudio to write this fantastic hit:

There are certain influences that made me write certain songs. For instance, the influence for ‘Sherry’ has a certain flavor of ‘Hey Baby’ by Bruce Channel…That’s exactly where it came from, not melodically, but feeling-wise, and that was my interpretation of ‘Hey Baby.’
