  1. When the whole world exploded w/Sherry it was there
first “HIT” as a group and a start of many more to come.
I remember it like it was yesterday, the radio stations
were playing it so very often and people all over were singing it. Thanks! Bobby for a pretty name for its title & lyrics and music to match,& dad for adding to
that quick head arrangment. It will always be there first and the beginning of there Journey. “Love it”

  2. That was an exciting time for me as well, Patti. I used to turn the radio dial constantly in search of the latest Four Seasons release from 1962 onward.

One of the points of fact that didn’t quite get in to the play was Joey Reynolds’ great role and influence in breaking early Four Seasons material, including “Sherry” while he was in Hartford, CT (at WDRC and WPOP). I have recently come upon a link to a Billboard magazine showing more information on the approximate timeline in the months after Joey left Hartford for my hometown for a short while at WTRX Flint, MI. He continued to consult the station even after leaving for WKBW Buffalo, NY. From what I can gather, Joey broke “Dawn (Go Away)” at WTRX in December, 1963 by bringing a promotional acetate copy to the station before it was released on Philips.

Joey’s influence there was evident at that station earlier throughout 1963 with early breaks of not only “Candy Girl”, but “Ain’t That A Shame”, “Soon”, “Marlena”, “New Mexican Rose”, and “That’s The Only Way”. “Candy Girl/Marlena” was #1 there, shown as a double sided hit.

I know that Joey has been reported to have been quite disappointed that he was not given credit in “Jersey Boys” for his role in getting early airplay. Some reports say that the upcoming movie may expand on his role.
