Who Loves Jersey Boys? Sacramento!!

September 15th, 2007

In a Special to the Roseville Press-Tribune, Jean Cress notes that Jersey Boys, season opener for California Musical Theatre’s Broadway Sacramento is a show-stopping, foot stomping musical that has Sacramento audiences dancing in the aisles. Who would have thought that a musical about four guys from New Jersey would make for such a phenomenal evening of musical theater?

Long before Springsteen became “The Boss” and Tony Soprano ordered his first hit, four blue-collar boys from Newark became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time.

Cress gives high praise for the actors that play The Four Seasons–Erich Bergen, Steve Gouveia, Michael Ingersoll, and Christopher Kale Jones, in addition to the other members of the cast–many who play multiple parts–provide first-rate support for the show’s four stars.

  2. I think it was the best play I have seen in quite awhile (and I have season tickets). I saw Mamma Mia last year , the Abba Musical, and thoroughly enjoyed that too. Mamma Mia is a world wide phenomenon – but Jersey Boys is about the lives of the singers, whereas Mamma Mia has a rather silly plot whipped together so one can hear Abba’s music.

Mamma Mia could have been even better by delving into the lives of the Swedish singers. So I am saying that I liked Jersey Boys better than Mamma Mia.

I saw it in the 17th and can say every seat was filled and if you weren’t tapping your feet to the music you were more dead than alive.

It was a wonderful play and I’ll be back if they come back.

  3. My sisters and I saw Jersey Boys on the 17th and just LOVED it!!! It was funny, brought us to tears and was one of the best plays I’ve seen. Being in my 30′s I didn’t ‘grow up’ with their music, but I knew most of the songs because their sound crosses all generations! I just loved and if I can see it again I will! I just wish there was a time or place that we could meet the actors or visit them in an autograph session!
