Jersey Boys Among One of Two Productions Showing a Box Office Climb Last Week
January 29th, 2006According to today’s Variety, Broadway box office totals suffered from its usual seasonal slide last week. Rialto grosses for Week 34 (Jan. 16-22) totaled $14,167,168, down about $1.5 million from the previous week, although still a healthy $2 million above the take from the same time last year.
Nearly all of the 25 shows on the boards saw a drop in box office sales, from a few thousand bucks to a hefty $347,764. There were, however, two exceptions: The Phantom of the Opera, climbed about $15,000, perhaps still riding the publicity wave from its record-breaking performance of January 9, and Jersey Boys also held steady, rising $9,000.
Will the Jersey Boys’ box office hot streak continue? Check back tomorrow for an update on Broadway grosses for Week 35.
