Friday Flashback: The Royal Teens Performing ‘Short Shorts’!

February 17th, 2012

This week, in 1958, “Short Shorts” by The Royal Teens was climbing up the Billboard Hot 100. The song, co-written by group members Bob Gaudio and Tom Austin, peaked at #3 and remained on the chart for 16 weeks.

Does anyone know what TV show is featured on this video?

  1. “Short Shorts” was also “sampled”, in today’s terminology, later in 1958 by Sheb Wooley’s “Purple People Eater”.

“Short Shorts” also topped out at #3 on Cash Box, spending two weeks at that position. Surprisingly, it had debuted at #35 January 25 on Cash Box, when it’s hardly Short Shorts weather in New Jersey.

  3. According to the comments under the clip on You Tube this is from a movie called “Lets Rock.” Also the guy at the back was Julius LaRosa, again according to the comments.

  4. Thanks, Kay. I recall Tom Austin mentioning “Let’s Rock” in his JBB Exclusive Interview–but had no idea this was from the movie (I should have read the comments :) )
