Jersey Boys–One of Broadway’s A-Listers!

August 13th, 2006

Michael Glitz of the New York Daily News notes that summer can be tough on the theater: Audiences can dwindle, distracted by weekend getaways and Hollywood blockbusters. The warm-weather months are when some shows stumble, while others prove they’re here long-term. Glitz provides a list of this summer’s Broadway A-listers. Here’s what he says about Jersey Boys and JLY:

JERSEY BOYS: Still glowing from those Tony wins, this smash hit musical has made a star out of John Lloyd Young, who wins over audiences as Frankie Valli and won over TV viewers with his heartfelt acceptance speech. ABC was paying attention: They’ve signed Young to a development deal.

  1. Do we have an official last performance date for JLY? He says on his blog that his contract is up October 6th, but in the article about signing with ABC the writer says that his last day is Oct. 1st…anyone know which it is?

  2. JLY’s contract with Jersey Boys ends 10/6/06; however, there has been no official announcement that he is leaving the show.

Jersey Boys Blog will post an update as soon as there is an official announcement.

  3. I sure hope he is not leaving the show! I wish there were some way he could stay and do his development deal.

  4. I know what you mean Betty….I want to plan another trip to New York (for next year – I’m in the UK), but I’m not going to do it until I know if JLY will be there or not. Crazy…but that’s the JLY effect for you!!!
Just wish there was some way we could find out for sure.

  5. ….but JLY signed a 1 year talent holding contract with ABC – doesn’t that mean that he can’t resign with JB? I assumed that meant that he is now “owned” by the TV network.
