Valli Chats about JB, Acting, and His New Recording

September 22nd, 2006

Angie Kinsey from the Paducah Sun recently talked to Frankie Valli, who will be performing next Thursday in Paducah’s Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center. In a phone interview, he talked about the megahit Jersey Boys, acting on “The Sopranos,” and his upcoming new recording, scheduled to be released in early 2007.

Members of the Four Seasons changed over the years, and Valli now tours with all new members. Valli told Kinsey,

Jersey Boys tells the story of the Four Seasons from how the group was formed to our break-up. It’s a pretty thorough story. It’s an idea that came about 25 or 35 years ago. We thought someday we would do a book or movie, but it wouldn’t be appropriate to do a story on your life until you come to a place in your life where you can look back on what you’ve accomplished.

Valli was in the audience when the musical won four Tony Awards this year. About the award and the show’s success, Valli stated,

I’m surprised, happy and elated. It’s pretty strange watching someone play you on stage. It’s like watching someone imitating you.

Valli also has made several appearances on HBO’s “The Sopranos” as New York mob captain Rusty Millio. Valli noted that he always wanted to do a “little bit” of acting.

A new album featuring some of his hits from the 1960s will be released at the first of the year. Regarding the upcoming album, Valli said,

It’s really hard to have favorite songs. I picked the ones that have a special meaning to me and the ones I really love and like a lot.
