A Jersey Handshake
November 1st, 2007Betty Mohr, DailySouthtown.com’s theater critic says there’s a scene in Jersey Boys in which the actors playing Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio decide to form a partnership. Gaudio, who in real life would go on to write the classic hits performed by Valli and the Four Seasons, asks the singer whether they should sign a contract. Valli’s reply?
“You wanna a contract? Here’s a Jersey contract,” he says as he puts out his hand for a handshake.
“That’s exactly how it really happened,” Valli said one week ago in Chicago before the show’s opening.
Read the story behind the handshake and Gaudio’s and Valli’s thoughts on success on Dailysouthtown.com.
Frankie was totally right about how they view and meet their fans….. I’ve been fortunate to have experienced how all four of them were very friendly and took the time to thank us for our support when we were celebrating both the Jersey Boys and Four Seasons last month in NY. I congratulated Frankie as San Francisco’s Italian Pride Parade’s grand marshal, his portrayal as “Rusty” on The Sopranos, and mentioned to his bandmates that I’m still purchasing Four Seasons memorabilia, DVD’s and CD’s.
After watching CBS Sunday Morning in April, 2007, just hearing both Frankie and Bob describe the “handshake” was an event in itself because it’s true that the music industry nowadays can be very cutthroat. I still hope for further success coming from GAVA.
