A Record-Breaking Week on Broadway!
November 28th, 2006As reported earlier, Jersey Boys broke another house record at the August Wilson Theatre, grossing $1,182,602 (100.7% attendance rate) for the week ending 11/26/06.
Thanksgiving week on Broadway was outstanding–with box office grosses totaling $23,349,774 for the week ending 11/26/06 for the 33 shows on the boards.
Below are the Top 10 Grosses from BroadwayWorld.com for the week ending November 26, 2006:
- Wicked $1,715,156
- Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! $1,578,149
- The Lion King $1,402,984
- Mary Poppins $1,241,413
- Jersey Boys $1,182,602
- Spamalot $1,081,866
- Mama Mia! $1,055,398
- Drowsy Chaperone $1,031,638
- The Phantom of the Opera $982,374
- A Chorus Line $938,609
Remember to keep in mind, JB fans, that these numbers are comparing apples and oranges. The four shows that beat Jersey Boys in grosses last week have between 30% and 245% more seats available in a week than at August Wilson. Hmmm…wonder what the ratings would show with all things being equal?

Another apples to oranges thing to consider…I just received an email flier selling 30% discount tickets to the Drowsy Chaperone, which was the main competition for the Tony Awards. It is already beginning to wane. I don’t believe we will be seeing any discount JB tickets for quite some time yet.
