Big Men In Town–At the Matinee!

October 4th, 2008

Hard to believe, this time last week, we were in the middle of one of the best Jersey Boys weekends of all time! Once the Tech-Half recovered from the red eye flight with some heavy turbulence, we began Friday night by seeing the 2008 Tony Award Winner for Best Play–August: Osage County! Fantastic play with a magnificent cast–very dramatic! Also very funny, chaotic, dysfunctional, and heart-wrenching–all in one show! (Sorry, no pictures of the marquee–the Tech Half forgot the camera again! Now who’s the A$$HOLE???)

Saturday’s Jersey Boys matinee? Walking into the August Wilson Theatre, I don’t know what it was–but this afternoon crowd seemed ready for the time of their lives! As reported earlier, we had the wonderful surprise of chatting with Bob Gaudio before the show! Talk about the start of an amazing afternoon!

Nice chit chat among the ladies sitting near me. One lady told me, “I’m into real drama, but my friend sitting in front of us really wanted to see this show!” I immediately said, “I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised–Jersey Boys has a great story, too!”

The lady looked intrigued and said, “Oh, you’ve seen this before?” I casually mentioned that I had seen the show several times.

Considering this lady was into high drama, I wondered if I should behave in my seat and act like a proper theatre-goer, rather than my usual howling?

The crowd was one of the most energized ones I’ve ever seen! Long before the whole world exploded with “Sherry,” this audience was dancing, cheering, and absolutely hooked! Sebastian Arcelus, Christian Hoff, John Leone, and the new Broadway matinee Frankie, Dominic Scaglione, Jr., along with the entire cast, were spectacular!

So spectacular, in fact, that the skeptical high drama lady sitting next to me said, “You weren’t kidding about how good this show really is!”
