Bob Gaudio: The Man Behind the Hits & The Man For All Seasons
June 24th, 2012With JERSEY BOYS’ heading to Brisbane from July 13 through September 16, reporter Nathanael Cooper of The Courier-Mail recently caught up with original Four Seasons member Bob Gaudio. Check out a preview of the interview:
I FIRST met The Four Seasons’ Bob Gaudio in a Melbourne theatre foyer around the time of the Australian premiere of Jersey Boys. The charming but quietly spoken and disarmingly handsome man sat in a chair, surrounded by journalists gathered to hear him speak.
As he answered questions about his career, the other members of The Four Seasons and the musical treatment of their story, the realisation descended that this was a very special man.
As Gaudio told his story everyone leant in closer, partly to hear, partly to be nearer to the man who wrote pop hits including Sherry, Rag Doll, Big Girls Don’t Cry, My Eyes Adored You and his first No.1, Short Shorts.
Nearly three years later, after successful seasons in Melbourne, Sydney and New Zealand, I’m dialling Gaudio’s home to talk about the Brisbane season of Jersey Boys, starting July 13 at QPAC.
And despite countless interviews the world over for the show, Gaudio remains as charming and kind as he is portrayed in the stage musical. In fact, his enthusiasm for the Tony, Olivier and Helpmann award-winning show is every bit as grand as it ever was.
“It’s been such a blessing for us,” he says. “It had been such a long-time dream to do something on Broadway and the fact it finally came together and to have the first venture be so successful is really something.”
