Detroit Native Eric Gutman’s Journey in Jersey Boys!

December 19th, 2009

Jersey Boys LogoChristina Fuoco-Karasinski has a marvelous interview with Detroit native and long-time JERSEY BOYS cast member Eric Gutman.

Eric is thrilled to be back home in Detroit playing the role of Norm Waxman in the hit musical. Regarding Waxman, Eric states, “Norm, without giving away too much, is the bad guy in the show in a way. He kind of brings to light issues the band is having. It brings the show to the head at some point. I’m lucky enough that Norm is my main role. I get to play seven different roles in the show throughout the evening.”

Gutman said he feels he brings a real love for the show and the music to “Jersey Boys.”

“My dad brought me up on Motown music when I was a kid and The Beatles and Four Seasons music,” Gutman said. “To have such a love for this kind of music going in was a real treat. Also when Des McAnuff, the director, was casting the original production, he said it was real important that he keeps the musical integrity of the show. During the show, The Four Seasons play the instruments. I’m very fortunate that I’ve been playing guitar for over 20 years because that’s one of the key points on why I was cast. I can play instruments they put in my hands.”
