Frankie Valli’s Advice to the Jersey Boys’ Chicago Cast

November 18th, 2007

Philip Potempo of NWI.com provides coverage of Star Plaza CEO and Talent Buyer Charlie Blum’s idea to host a”special meeting” this fall for Frankie Valli during his sold-out return concert at the Chicago Theater, booked by Blum and performed on Nov. 9.

Blum arranged to get the cast of Broadway in Chicago’s Jersey Boys, the musical about Valli and his famed Four Seasons, to attend the concert’s afternoon sound check, to meet and chat with Valli. (The cast couldn’t attend the actual concert, of course, because they had to do their own performance down the street at The LaSalle Bank Theatre.)

Potempa’s favorite bit of advice he heard Valli tell the young group at their meeting was a reminder they can do anything, despite what the critics might say.

“I’ll never forget what Walter Winchell, probably the most famous columnist and critic ever, had to say about us when he first saw the Four Seasons,” Valli, 73, recalled.

“He said in his column that we were an unlikely group, who looked more like a basketball player, two bookies and a jockey, rather than singers.”

  1. Apparently Walter Winchell did not know everything—ccause The Four Seasons are the greatest group of all time—isn’t it evident with all the hoopla? And the youg people emulating this group far exceed the talent of the past—THEY AR SIMPLY AWSOME, REGARDLESS OF WHICH CAST MEMBER PLAYS THE PARTS OF THE SHOW—JUST SAW THE SHOW AGAIN FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME AND JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH! So, Walt Winchell, so much for you!
