Friday Flashback: The Four Seasons Performing ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ on ‘Where The Action Is’ in 1966

October 14th, 2011

On January 27, 1966, The Four Seasons were guests on Dick Clark’s “Where The Action Is,” performing “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” Check out some amusing looks the guys are giving other as they’re singing between 0:45-0:52. Great stuff!

  1. 1. Why were they singing a song from ’62 in ’66?
    2. I wonder what song the kids were dancing to.
    3. Judging from Frankie’s look at 0:45, Joe must have poked him in the bass.

  2. Stubbleyou,
Lipsync was used a lot on T.V.then. The boys can just move there lips and act funny. Its strange hearing my dad’s voice coming out of Joe Longs mouth. To lipsync and move your mouth to the exact timing takes practice & a good mirror. Ha! Ha! but it does.
Thank-god the recording didn’t skip. Could you imagine
The Seasons had lipsync down, right from day one.

Joe Long / talented and such a nice guy, they could not have selected a nicer person to replace my dad.
It has always been a Joy! being in his company through
    out the years.
Wishing him Best Wishes/good health & Blessings always.

Yes! We all know Big girls don’t cry: is done by Frankie, Bobby, Nicky, & Tommy. The Original 4 Seasons
They had been on: Dick Clark’s American Bandstand several times.

My favorite of all times, was when they appeared on American Bandstand and Dick Clark had presented The 4 Seasons:
Frankie,Bobby,Nicky,Tommy with a Gold plaque for the #1 spot on the cash box singles chart for the sixth consecutive week with “SHERRY”. There manager at that time was Jerry Weintraub and Bob Crewe the man who produced the Smash!!!!! & Thanks! Bob G. for giving us a great song written in just 15 minutes. Way to Go!
Yes, as I mentioned several times being on the show that is the one that stands out the most for me.
And trying to see who would screw-up the lipsynic part. But all of them never did. They always said practice makes perfect…And it showed.
My dad Nick Massi loved to lipsynic but of course we all love to see the boys! perform live!!!! Right?
This song in the clip for Friday flash back is ONE of another favorite to many of Us.

    Thanks! for letting me share
    Ciao
