Is Pal Joey Back On Again?

August 1st, 2007

According to Playbill.com, the on-again, off-again revival of Pal Joey — featuring a revised book by Richard Greenberg — may be on again.

Earlier this week, The New York Times reported that the revival, which was aiming for a spring 2008 debut starring Jersey Boys’ Christian Hoff, had been postponed. Marc Platt, who was scheduled to produce the Joe Mantello-directed production, told the Times, “This spring the timing is just not right, but hopefully it will happen as soon as it can.” Platt added that the postponement was for personal and professional, not financial, reasons. He also said that Mantello and Hoff were still attached to a future production.

The New York Post reports Aug. 1 that the Roundabout Theatre Company may present the revival at Studio 54 in the spring. Producer Platt told the Post, “If the Roundabout does the show, I welcome that, and I will do whatever is asked of me to help them make it happen.”

  3. After I e-mailed Christian a while back and discussed future plans for the OBC members, Pal Joey did come up because it already had been made public. He was excited at the prospect and did mention that this is now and he’s still Tommy DeVito until his contract ends.

Even if he’s moving on to another production, we’ll definitely miss him but we’ll totally support him in his new leading role.

  4. Lauren,

I also am not sure about this. WHat is the ROUNDABOUT? I am not a New Yorker. Please don’t hold that against me. IE

  6. I’m surprised they didn’t revive “Pal Joey” a long time ago, especially with all the Rat Pack/Sinatra nostalgia. It’s a great chance for any actor that can get the part.
