  1. I saw the new cast this past Saturday. They only started rehersing with a full set last week and there were a few minor flubs here and there but they were amazing. I’m sure after a few performance under their belts they’ll be phenomenal. And the alternate Frankie (John Michael Dias) was on and he was fantastic.

  2. Can’t wait for the Mother’s Day performance at 7:30 PM this coming Sunday! After watching the National Tour Cast I two times and finally watching the Broadway cast in person, this will surely be a treat! We always make sure it’s a family outing when watching them. Thanks to the ease of online ticketing, we can always get our favorite mezzanine, orchestra or loge seats. I’m not going to pass judgment on anyone’s performance because each of the casts have wowed audiences across the nation, and have made Jersey Boys the hottest ticket on Earth.

For a family of four, ($99 + tax ea. at the Curran each three times and $113 + tax ea. at the August Wilson) we’ve watched them from various vantage points and that makes each performance different and lots of fun. Jersey Boys is the best ticket in town and we also can’t wait to watch Cast #1 at the Ahmanson in LA, the unspecified permanent(?) cast in Las Vegas and Cast #2 in Chicago!

  3. Just watched National Cast II last night and were totally pleased by how this cast performed. The goosebumps occurred as much as we expected, the tears flowed during “Fallen Angel” and we gave them about the same amount of extended applause as the other casts, but it seemed like the Curran Theatre shook every time we applauded. Maybe it was because we watched it from mid-orchestra section instead of Loge or Mezzanine. I knew that this would be “different” due to where we sat this time.

Afterwards, Drew, Jarrod, Steve and Jeremy took the time to chat and sign a playbill for us as well. I asked Steve if there were any comparisons between any of the casts and NY/SF, and he was happy to be involved with his extended “family” of “12 Seasons” and fellow cast members. Jarrod was happy to see my twin son and wife were return customers seeing him lead the cast for the 2nd time, Jeremy was glad to be in SF as a lead stage actor and enjoys the “Jersey Boy” experience, and Drew was so kind and accommodating like his castmates, and down-to-earth in contrast to their stage personnas.

Thanks to the 2nd National Cast for their time and consideration!

  4. To Steven Goldsmith:
    Wow!
I’m trying to recreate your name sans program. You played Frankie on 7/14 at the 2:00 performance. Understudy?? Not hardly…you are the best. I saw the performance in April, albeit from the last row of the first balcony. Down center, close and personal this time, Whoa, you rocked!! You were Frankie, your range was great, your delivery flawless, you were so IN TO IT. and when you sang “You’re To Good to be True” an the ensuing applause brought a tear to your eye, which I could see thanks to my center seat up close.

Bottom line, I’m an older (63) straight married guy who has NEVER written to any “star” at any time. Hey, give me the understudy anytime if their half as good as you.

  6. Lew and Mike, I am a pretty devoted fan of “Jersey Boys” and this is the first I’ve heard of Steven’s being associated with the show. I tried to access http://www.stevenmgoldsmith.com without success. I’m wondering if he’s the same Steven Goldsmith that posts comments about the touring groups to the Broadway News site. Indeed he just posted one about a week ago quite complimentary of Chris Jones’s performance in LA, which I didn’t respond to, but forwarded to Chris (who was quite pleased). Could you please double check Steven’s website address?

  9. Well I got beat to posting the link Howard. But there it is. If you happen to be in San Francisco or Chicago and he’s on as Frankie you have to see him perform. He’s fantastic. It’s hard for me to rank the actors who I’ve seen play Frankie but he’s definately near the top.

  10. Thanks Mike. Here’s the post from Broadway News. It’s about Steven–it was not posted by him.

    Steven Goldsmith = awesome

I’ve never been a fan of the real Frankie Valli’s voice, but Steven sounds like him, but having gone through filters to make it tolerable. Steven is pretty much tied with Chris Jones as my favorite Frankie at this point, that’s just going by Steven’s first performance.

And it’s odd because I don’t think you need to sound like Frankie Valli to do justice to the part (I’m kind of glad Chris Jones doesn’t…).

He does sound great, and I’ll be sure to check out his site. Thanks guys.

  11. Steven was the most amazing Frankie I have ever seen. He electrified the stage, and those are not my words, but all those of the audience around me, and I have to agree. He shouldn’t be the understudy, he should be a primary Frankie in one of the Broadway production companies. I saw the show five times, and Steven M Goldsmith is a true star. His voice range, acting finese, and overall theatrical presence captivated the audience. I was thrilled to see him play this role. What a classy actor this young man is! I have no doubt he will go far in the acting profession. GO STEVEN, CAUSE YOU ROCK!
