Jeremy Kushnier’s Life in Toronto

January 6th, 2009

NationalPost.com’s reporter Dave McGinn recently spoke with Jeremy Kushnier about his life in Toronto. Here’s a preview of the interview:

From the ‘Peg to Hogtown: I’m originally from Winnipeg, but I moved out to Toronto when I was 18 or 19. Then I moved to New York when I was about 23. When I first moved to Toronto I lived out in the Beach. I lived on the Danforth for a while and right downtown for a while. I lived all over the place.

Get on the bus: When I got the call to audition for the musical of Footloose in New York I was poor and had no other way of getting there, so I borrowed as much money as I could from friends and bought a round-trip bus ticket to New York. It’s a pretty nasty ride. It was 12 hours. It was rough. But I got the part. That’s what actually moved me out to the States.

Playing the bad guy: What drew me to the character I play in Jersey Boys? The pay cheque is always good. But the character I get to play is so much fun. He’s sort of the guy everyone loves to hate, or hates to love. It’s not very often in my career that I’ve got to play the bad guy. It’s been a really cool experience. I also have a side career of music that I’m trying to do at the same time, and this is a great blend of the two of them because you get to play a rock star every night.

  1. I have not had the pleasure of seeing you perform…but you sure have the look! Good Luck in Toronto!

  2. I saw the Jersey Boys twice in Las Vegas. The first time you were performing. I fell in love with the musical and when I went back the second time, I was very disappointed you were not there. I still love the Jersey Boys but it’s just not the same without you. Break a leg in Toronto. Vegas misses you.
