JERSEY BOYS, the 2006 Tony-award winning best musical that audiences can’t take their eyes off of, has worked its way to Pittsburgh. Beginning Wednesday, January 7 through February 1, JB national tour will be playing at the Benedum Center. Two Pittsburgh newspapers had the opportunity to talk to JB cast members Eric Bates and Steve Gouveia.

The real reason that “Jersey Boys” has done well for two years in city upon city for extended three- to six-week stays is because the story’s good, said Eric Bates, who plays the group’s founder and guitarist Tommy DeVito.

Lots has been written and said about the “Jersey Boys” story. Don’t find out what happens in the show before you see it, Bates suggested.

“It almost blows your mind. It’s that good,” he said.

When Steve Gouveia, who plays Nick Massi in the JERSEY BOYS national tour, first auditioned for the show at La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, he had no idea he would still be performing in the show four years later.

“I thought it would be good. I thought it would be fun,” he says “Out of the gate, it was pretty complete. … But what it was going to become, I don’t think anybody knew.”
