Jersey Boys Dazzles Detroit!

December 20th, 2009

Jersey Boys LogoThe first review of the Detroit production of JERSEY BOYS has arrived online! According to Susan Whitall of The Detroit News, JB tells a story of blue-collar musical success with so much emotional resonance locally, it’s amazing it took it so long to play here.

They scored with hook-laden songs written by Gaudio, a musical prodigy with movie-star good looks, and a distinctive vocal mix with the sizzle factor of Valli’s piercing falsetto. “Jersey Boys” jolts from the beginning with sharp vocals, muscular choreography and a big dose of Italian machismo.

The four actors who play the Four Seasons in “Jersey Boys” and the company’s musicians manage to replicate the excitement of music they could only know at a distance, as oldies, which is a remarkable feat.

The show is fast-paced and yet gives each Four Seasons hit a respectful, full-length reading. Blessedly, there are no medleys here. It’s irresistible fun that as the audience, we are inside the group’s story and on stage with them from the beginning.
