NEWSFLASH: Jersey Boys National Tour Scheduled for Chicago!

September 21st, 2006

Chicago Tribune theatre critic Chris Jones reports that Jersey Boys, the musical biography of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons that became the biggest musical hit of the 2005-06 Broadway season, will open at the LaSalle Bank Theatre, 18 W. Monroe St., in October, 2007, in a co-presentation by Broadway in Chicago and TheatreDreams.

The show, which is written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and directed by Des McAnuff, won four 2006 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It continues to sell out on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre. The show features the original music of Bob Gaudio and the lyrics of Bob Crewe.

The Jersey Boys national tour kicks off in San Francisco in December and then moves to Los Angeles in the spring. According to Jones, no dates have been announced beyond Chicago–leaving open the possibility that the show will enjoy a long-lasting engagement in a city where the original Four Seasons always sold a lot of records.
