Return of Jersey Boys Is Captivating in Columbus!

September 19th, 2013

Columbus Dispatch critic Michael Grossberg has posted a phenomenal review for the JERSEY BOYS return to the Ohio Theatre! Here’s an excerpt below:

Oh, what a night: The Boys are back in town, singing their hearts out about the ups and downs of the American Dream.

Jersey Boys, returning to Columbus for an electric encore after its popular 2011 tour, seems destined to last far longer than most so-called “jukebox” musicals because of its deft wedding of blue-collar story and song.

The true story of the New Jersey quartet who struggled to sustain a Top-40 career as the Four Seasons is unvarnished in its gritty authenticity.

Yet, the seamless staging is as polished as their greatest hits — from Sherry and Walk Like a Man to C’mon Marianne and Let’s Hang On (To What We’ve Got).

That combination of style and substance, seamlessly blended by director Des McAnuff and choreographer Sergio Trujillo, made for great theater at tonight’s opening in the Ohio Theatre.
