Today in Four Seasons History–March 2, 1963: Walk Like A Man Tops the Chart!

March 2nd, 2015

Fifty-two years ago today (3/2/1963), The Four Seasons topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the third consecutive time with the single, “Walk Like A Man”! Written by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio, this song remained in the No. 1 position for three weeks.

  1. First song I ever heard by the group at the age of 11 going on 12. My older brothers always had the radio on listening to the Everly Brothers, Elvis, Neil Sedaka, Bobby Rydell and Chubby Checker, etc. I can still remember hearing this song and thinking, even at the age of 11, what a different sound with the drums, guitar and singing.

II went to my first two Seasons concerts in 1964 with my older brother in the Spring at the Scranton CYC and then went with my cousin and my mom and aunt to see them late in the summer at WARM Day in Scranton. There were anywhere from 20,000 to 25,000 people at the Free all day long event which featured a number of stars from the New York, Philly area. The Seasons came on about 9:00 PM and blew everyone away because they played and sang LIVE. Many groups and singers back then would just lip synch their songs.

  2. Whatever happened to “SOON (I’ll Be Home Again)”? I have not been able to find it on any Seasons’ anthologies.

  5. Looks like it’s available on a Warner Bros cd (Ain’t That A Shame and 11 Others)on Amazon.

Not sure why Rhino never included it in their anthologies.
