West End Jersey Boys Review Round-Up

March 20th, 2008 has round-up of London critics’ Jersey Boys’ reviews. First night critics agreed that this “no-frills production” absolutely “deserves to thrive” and the music of The Four Seasons brings “sheer joy from start to finish”!

Also, on, critic Warwick Thompson states that “it’s difficult to resist the joyous energy of the numbers…”

  1. Totally disappointed at the, what can only be described as, lukewarm reviews from the British critics.

The show at the Prince Edward Theatre is fantasic! The cast are superb and it is a show which makes you feel good to be alive!

Go and see it – you will love it, I came down from Glasgow to London just to see it and want to do so again!

  2. Ultimately the paying public will decide the success of this show.

From what I experienced 29 Feb, it will run and run!

Oh what a night! You will love it!

  3. What surprises me about some of the reviews is that what we consider here to be a strength of the play, i.e., the first 40 minutes of the play, the build-up so to speak, where we develop a relationship with each of the 4 Seasons in their journey to Sherry and beyond, is viewed as a negative by many in the British press. Perhaps they don’t have a strong Tommy DeVito like Christian, or Deven, or Jeremy, to grab and hold the audience’s attention on the journey to Sherry. Or maybe it’s just the Brits.

Overall the reviews have been very good and in the end it is the people who will make it successful in the UK. Jersey Boys will be in the UK for a long, long time.
